Italy is heading for early elections

The Cabinet of the Draghi government is expected to meet this afternoon. It is recalled that the Italian president of the republic, Sergio Mattarella, accepted the resignation of Draghi, but asked him to remain in his position, for the processing of current cases.

At the same time, the Italian president of the republic will shortly meet the presidents of the parliament and the senate, Roberto Fico and Elisabetta Casellati, to discuss the latest political developments.

It is clear, however, that the Italian president will choose the path of early elections and the big question at this stage is whether the state budget will be drawn up and approved before or after the election.

“The sooner we go to vote, the better, to save the budget. Regarding the Recovery Plan of our country, I have a lot of doubts,” said Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, who left the Five three weeks ago Stars.

The parties are meanwhile gearing up for the election campaign and parliamentary elections are likely to be set for October 2 or 9. “I envision the creation of a great conservative party, with the participation of Forza Italia, the League and all the forces that embrace liberal values,” said Silvio Berlusconi a while ago.

Today, however, two well-known executives left Berlusconi’s Forza Italia: the Ministers of Public Administration, Renato Brunetta, and the Minister of Regional Affairs, Maria Stella Gelmini, who disagreed with yesterday’s attitude of “Cavaliere” and the decision not to provide full support to Mario Draghi.
