Italy: Meloni candidate expelled for praising Hitler and Putin

The candidate for parliament in Acraganta, Sicily, Calogero Pisano, is expelled from the party of Georgia Meloni as is at the center of a major political row, five days before the Italian general election accused of praising Hitler and Putin.

According to a post by center-left candidate Pepe Provenzano and an article by the newspaper La Repubblica, Pisano had previously described Adolf Hitler on the Internet as “a great politician” while also writing that he “supports Vladimir Putin».

“What will they say now? Are these jokes? The fascist flame on the party symbol, the fascists on the ballot papers. Indeed, it is true that “deep roots never freeze,” Provenzano wrote.

The president of the Jewish Community of Rome, Ruth Duregello, as reported by the Athens News Agency, referred to the issue, stressing that “it is unacceptable to allow a person who praises Hitler to become a member of the next parliament.” “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: those who glorify hate cannot be given opportunities,” Duregello added.

The far-right party of the Brothers of Italy responded with a statement in which it is stated: “Pizano is stepping down from his duties. The decision has immediate effect and also concerns his role as regional coordinator in the region of Akraganta and as a member of the party’s national leadership.”

The party of Giorgia Meloni also emphasized that “Pizano does not represent the Brothers of Italy at any level, while he was also banned from using the party symbol.”

“Years ago I wrote completely wrong things. I apologize to those who felt offended by my posts, which now, after so many years, I consider indecent” replied Calogero Pisano himself.
