The Italian government announced today that there are still more than six million citizens in the country who have not even received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. More specifically, these are 6,103,160 inhabitants of the country. The highest percentage of unvaccinated people belongs to the age group 40 to 49 years and to that 50 to 59 years.
“The situation is not easy. This new wave of coronavirus is affecting the whole of Europe. In Italy, too, there is an increase in infections,” said Health Minister Roberto Speranza. “We remain, of course, one of the countries with the best epidemiological situation thanks to our vaccination campaign,” he added.
Overall, 88% of residents have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine and 85% the second. The commemorative dose has so far been made by ten million Italians. In the coming days, health authorities aim to increase vaccinations to 500,000 per 24 hours.
At the same time, the Italian newspaper La Stampa refers to the plans of Mario Draghi’s government, if the cases and hospital admissions continue to increase and the country’s health system is put under pressure. According to the newspaper, in this case the government of Rome will extend the use of the “super green pass” in the workplace. Which means that in order to be able to go to work, one must – must – have a vaccination certificate.
