Italy: New ‘black record’, with 360 deaths from coronavirus

A new “black record” of deaths from Covid-19 was set in Italy. According to today’s report, 360 people lost their lives and 186,253 cases were recorded.

Today’s report, however, also includes 27 deaths that were not recorded in the past few days. At this stage, in the country, there are 2,398,828 positive for the virus.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the total number of cases is 8,356,514 and the death toll is 140,548.

In the last twenty-four hours, 1,132,309 diagnostic tests were performed in Italy, 16.4% of which were positive for the virus.

There are 1,679 patients with coronavirus in the intensive care units, while there are 18,019 in the hospital wards.

At the same time, today in the country it was decided that the asymptomatic patients who are in the hospitals, from now on will not be included in the total number of those infected with the virus, who need hospitalization.

According to data from the last week, the largest increase in cases occurs between the ages of 20 and 29, and 10 to 19 years. From next Monday, the small northwestern region of Valle d’Aosta, on the border with France, will be turned into an “orange zone”, due to the increase in cases.

In the latest survey conducted by the Italian Ministry of Health and the Italian Higher Institute of Health on January 3, the omicron variant was detected in 81% of Covid-19 cases.
