In the last twenty-four hours in Italy, 13,686 cases of coronavirus were recorded and 51 people lost their lives. In total, 557,180 diagnostic tests were performed, 2.5% of which were positive.
There are 606 patients with Covid-19 in the intensive care unit, while there are 4,748 patients in the hospital wards.
The regions of the country with the most cases are Lombardy (2,209), the Veneto (2,036) and the region of Lazio (1,566) with Rome as its capital.
According to the director of the Italian Higher Institute of Health, Silvio Bruzafero, the increase in cases over the last seven days has continued in all parts of the country, while the age group most affected is that of young people under 19 years.
According to a new estimate, at least 30,000 lives have been saved thanks to the coronavirus vaccination in Italy. At the same time, however, 2,700,000 people in the country over the age of 50 have not yet received the first dose of the vaccine.
In the northeastern region of Ano Adigi, on the border with Austria, the curfew was extended to a total of 36 municipalities at night. The day before yesterday there were 20 municipalities. According to public television Rai, 40% of teachers in German-speaking schools in the area have not been vaccinated and many families (always of the German-speaking minority) belong to the vaccinators and have stopped sending their children to school.
In the big Italian cities, finally, in view of Christmas, it is considered very probable to approve a measure for mandatory use of a mask for anyone who is in open, busy places.
