Only one dose of COVID-19 vaccine will be given by Italy to those previously infected with the new coronavirus, as announced by the Ministry of Health.
“One dose of the vaccine may be considered for people who have previously been infected with SARS-CoV-2“whether they showed symptoms or not,” the ministry said in a statement.
This recommendation concerns people who were diagnosed with the new coronavirus three to six months ago, as clarified by AMPE.
France and Spain have announced similar policies last month, in a move that also appears to be aimed at saving vaccine doses against COVID-19 and boosting stocks as EU countries struggle to vaccinate their populations due to supply cuts imposed by pharmaceutical companies.
THE Italy, which has a population of about 60 million, had administered 4.76 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine by this morning. Among those vaccinated are 1.5 million people receiving both recommended doses.
