Italy: Part of Italian supermarkets restrict food sales

Part of Italian decided to restrict food sales in order to avoid unjustified purchases by citizens who are particularly concerned about the war in Ukraine.

Supermarket in the city of Treviso, in northeastern Italy, at this stage allows each customer to buy only two bottles of seed oil. Similar phenomena have already been recorded in Spain.

The same happened in Imperia, outside Genoa, where, however, the sale of up to five one-liter bottles of oil is allowed. In a statement, the store managers state that “the decision is due to the new international situation that has arisen, in order to be able to continue the normal supply of food.”

In Florence, however, the Coop supermarket announced that “although there has been no shortage of food, as there have been traders who have made mass purchases temporarily, a maximum of four cans of sugar, flour and seed oil can be sold. ».

The Italian press emphasizes that these are products and raw materials that until a few days ago were exported from Ukraine. The management of the Coop cooperative, finally, wanted to reassure the Italians, adding that “all supermarkets work with the aim of guaranteeing consumers a full and satisfactory service.”
