Seven bodies were found today in the wreckage of a helicopter that went missing on Thursday in the mountains of northern Italy, the emergency services announced today, which did not mention any survivors.
Four Turkish citizens were on board the helicopter, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said, while Italian media also reported the presence of two Lebanese.
The pilot was Italian, from Venice. The Ansa news agency reported that the other victims were on a business trip.
The helicopter crashed in a mountainous area of the Apennines on the border of the regions of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna.
“After the remains of the plane that disappeared on Mount Cusna on June 9 were found, the bodies of seven people aboard the helicopter were found in the wreckage,” Italian firefighters said on Twitter.
“No survivors were found,” the first aid service added.
In a statement issued Friday, before the wreckage was found, the Turkish Foreign Ministry had confirmed that four of its citizens were on board the missing helicopter after leaving the Tuscan town of Lucca on Thursday.
The Italian Air Force and police services took part in the investigation. Bad weather has hampered initial efforts to locate the missing helicopter in a sparsely populated mountainous area.
In a video posted on Twitter, a spokesman for the Italian Air Force said today that rescue teams had to reach the pedestrian point where they discovered “everything burned”.
