Italy: Strangers filled Rome with stickers of Hitler wearing a Roma shirt

It caused a commotion at Rome and throughout Italythe news that the Italian capital was filled with thousands of stickers showing him Adolf Hitler to wear her jersey Rome.

Strangers stuck them on traffic lights, signs, walls, shop windows and in many parts of the city. Police authorities are trying to solve the case and may not have found the perpetrators yet, but their investigations have focused on a far-right portion of the “jalorossi” fansaccording to information from the Italian newspaper “La Repubblica” and the sports newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport”.

They unfurled a banner that read “Roma Marcia Ancora” in the UEFA Europa Conference League final that Jose Mourinho’s team won against Feyenoord, who won their first ever European trophy. Since then, many times at Roma games they have been presented with shirts and banners bearing neo-Nazi or fascist messages, most notably ‘Roma Marcia Ancora’ which refers to the 1922 March on Rome.

The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, described the incident as “deplorable”, especially as the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust approaches (27/1). He added that the city’s cleaning services have already begun to remove the stickers from the various parts of the “Eternal City” where the strangers stuck them.

The police are trying to solve the case and there is a rush as the ultras in Italy seem to be leaning more and more towards the neo-Nazi and fascist movements. There are also fears of further incidents with Roma playing Napoli at the ‘Estadio Diego Armando Maradona’ on Sunday (29/1). Recently, fans of the two teams collided on a highway in Italy.
