Italy: The conservative alliance maintains its lead in the polls

The conservative alliance’s lead remains strong, according to the latest opinion polls in Italy ahead of the September 25 election.

Based on the data of the political analysis center Termometro Politico, the first party in the intention to vote is the far-right Adelphi of Italy with 24.3% and in second place is the center-left Democratic Party with 23.5%.

Matteo Salvini’s League “convinces” 14.3% of voters, while the fourth party in voting intention is the Five Star Movement with 11.1%. Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia currently does not exceed 7.3%.

4.9% of the statistical sample intends to vote for the new, “centrist political pole”, made up of the Live Italy party of former prime minister Matteo Renzi and the political force Azione (Action) of former economic development minister Carlo Calenda.

According to the Italian press, overall the conservative alliance is significantly ahead of the center-left in the various polls and the overall lead, depending on the polling company, starts from 10 percentage points and reaches up to 15. At the moment, the dominance of the League, of Forza Italia and the Brothers of Italy does not appear to be threatened even by the creation of the centrist alliance of Matteo Renzi and Carlo Calenda, which has as its main point of reference the “agenda” of the Draghi government.

Much will of course depend on what the hitherto undecided voters will ultimately choose. Far-right Georgia Meloni will have to show if she wishes to continue raising the bar or try to change course, even temporarily.

Meloni’s move to “retweet” images of the rape of a 55-year-old Ukrainian woman, who was raped by an African immigrant (which had been posted by a well-known Italian media outlet), caused negative reactions, not only in the political arena, but also on the internet and in general, almost , of the Italian press. Twitter decided a while ago to “take down” Meloni’s related post, because it does not respect its operating rules.

At the same time, the movement of the president of the Brothers of Italy to include among the “socially incorrect behaviors” bulimia and anorexia of teenagers and young people, was severely criticized by the center-left and centrist faction and by a significant number of young women and men who, in Italy as well, give daily battle against eating disorders.
