Her Ministry of Health Italy suggested to be vaccinated with 4th dose of vaccine coronavirus type mRNA in those who are severely immunosuppressed.
A prerequisite is that at least 120 days have passed since the previous dose, as announced yesterday.
The special commissioner appointed by the government to manage the pandemic emergency will determine when the recommendation will take effect based on the needs of the vaccination campaign, the ministry said.
The ministry added that the decision reflects the still high prevalence of the virus and the effectiveness that booster doses have been shown to have in preventing deaths from COVID complications and in general in treating symptoms.
Italy has recorded 152,848 disease-related deaths since it hit the country in February 2020 – the second-highest death toll in Europe after Britain and the eighth highest in the world. So far the country has recorded 12.4 million cases of coronavirus.
