Italy today took a step towards a gradual return to normalcy in the battle against Covid, ending the mandatory use of the mask outdoors and the reopening of nightclubs.
As of today, throughout Italy, the mask is no longer mandatory in the open air, but one must always have a casual one to be able to wear it in cases of gatherings and even outdoors, clarified the Ministry of Health.
“It’s a good thing if it’s good for tourism and we continue to be careful. We have to be careful with proximity, with contact, it can be a bit premature. I advise, even if we are no longer obliged to wear it, to wear it. “We always have it in our pocket in case we approach other people,” Jose Inacio Santiago, a Spanish tourist on a street in Rome, told AFPTV.
The use of a mask indoors remains mandatory for the time being and at least until March 31st.
Discos can also be reopened from today, but with some restrictions: to enter them one must have a health pass, which means that a negative test is not enough, while the capacity is limited to 75% of normal for outdoor nightclubs and at 50% for those that operate indoors.
The vaccination campaign in Italy has allowed at least one dose to be vaccinated in over 91% of the population over the age of 12 and over 35% of children aged 5 to 11, according to official figures.
Italy has had more than 150,000 deaths since the pandemic began two years ago.
