Italy: Under the microscope of the authorities the mistresses of the arch-mafioso of Cosa Nostra, Matteo Messina Denaro

THE Italian police have put under the… microscope of their investigations the ex-lovers of their archmafioso Cosa Nostra, Matteo Messina Denaroto determine whether they helped him evade capture for three decades, before he was handcuffed last month.

Among them are two women from the town of Campobello di Mazara in Sicily where the Cosa Nostra capo lived for months under a false name. “One of them denies even knowing him, while the other describes him as a very kind person”a police spokesman said.

Messina Denaro, 60, will serve multiple life sentences for the murders of about 50 people, including two judges and the 12-year-old son of an informant. The child was first strangled and then the mobsters threw his body in acid.

After tracking down and arresting Messina Denaro, officers found the numbers of various women and women’s clothing stored on his phone in the apartment where he lived. In his house there was also poster of Marlon Brando from the movie “The Godfather”, various fake documents and a pistol.

“I will love you forever”

As part of the investigations, the police searched her house Maria Mezi, 57-year-old ex-mistress of the archmafioso. The woman in the 1990s was jailed for hiding him from the authorities and now there are suspicions that she helped him again.

Letters that had seen the light of day reported: “You are the most beautiful thing there is”Mezi wrote to him and continued: “I love you and I will love you forever”.

Mezzi allegedly came into contact with Messina Denaro through her brother who had ties to Cosa Nostra. He hid him in an apartment in the city of Bagheria near Palermo, from where the archmafioso escaped when he received information that the police were closing in on his arrest. At the time, champagne, caviar, and a video game console were found in the apartment.

Before escaping from authorities again in 1993, Messina Denaro, according to Italian media, killed the manager of a hotel when he suspected that he was having an affair with a receptionist he also liked. In 2003, while he was in Venezuela, the police received information that he was in the company of beauties.

The photo under the pillow and the orgy

In 1995, the Franka Alanya, another Sicilian woman with whom Messina Denaro had a secret love affair, gave birth to their daughter, whom he has never met in his life. Author Giacomo Di Girolamo, who wrote the book “The Invisible” about the capo, said that while Alania was raising their daughter, she slept with the archmafioso’s photo under her pillow.

Last Tuesday (31/1) the Italian media reported that under his false identity, Messina Denaro participated in an orgy in Palermo where politicians, police, doctors, lawyers and prostitutes were present. Italian police declined to comment on the reports.
