Italy’s unemployment rate fell to 8.5% in February from a revised 8.6% in January as 81,000 jobs were created in the month.
The February rate was the lowest since April 2020, according to the statistical service Istat.
Estimates spoke of an unemployment rate of 8.7%. The unemployment rate at 8.6% was revised downwards from the initial 8.8%.
In the quarter to February, employment increased by about 100,000 or 0.4%, compared to September-November.
Compared to February 2021, the number of people at work increased by 7770,000 or 3.5%.
In February, youth unemployment fell to 24.2% from 24.8% a month ago, the lowest level since 2009.
The overall employment rate rose to 59.6% in February from 59.3% the previous month.
February was a record high for Italy, Istat said, although it remains one of the lowest in the eurozone.
Italy’s economic prospects have been limited by the effects of the war on Ukraine.
