According to the Italian authorities, the vaccination of children aged 5-11 years against the coronavirus is going to start on December 16 after the green light given yesterday by the Italian Drug Agency. The installments that are expected to be sent to Italy, in a first phase, are 1.5 million, while a new shipment will be made in January. December 23 was originally set as the start date for the new vaccination campaign.
According to a new estimate, there are 3.6 million children in this age group in Italy, and the goal is to protect them by vaccinating 50% to 70% of the total.
The various regions of the country are preparing to set up special vaccination centers, dedicated only to younger citizens. In the wider region of Rome, 78 new vaccination centers are expected to open soon, for children aged 5 to 11 only.
