Italy: Vaccines saved 12,000 in the first half of the year

In the last 24 hours in Italy 7,698 cases of coronavirus were recorded and 74 people lost their lives due to Covid-19.

In a total of 684,710 diagnostic tests, 1.1% tested positive. There are 481 patients in the intensive care units of the country, while there are 3,970 in the hospital wards.

According to a study by the Bruno Kesser Foundation, which was presented by the Italian Higher Institute of Health, last semester, thanks to the coronavirus vaccines, 12,000 lives were saved in the country. He was able to resume 50% of the social contacts that existed before the pandemic. According to the study, we will be able to return to our familiar life, the pre-coronavirus period, if 90% of the population is fully vaccinated, including children aged 5 and over.

Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza also stressed that so far more than 84% of citizens over the age of 12 have completed their vaccination cycle, while 86.7% have received the first dose.

According to the press, finally, the Italian government does not mean, for the time being, to impose locally locked up for unvaccinated citizens, even if the governors of the greater Genoa and Trieste regions were openly in favor of this solution.
