The Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, speaking at a conference of the universal organization Comunione e Liberazione, referred to the support his country wants to offer to Afghan refugees.
“We want to host, in total, 2,500 men, women and minors from AfghanistanSaid Di Mayo, who also confirmed that Mario Draghi’s government intends to hold a special G20 summit on developments in Afghanistan. He called on the whole of Europe to “respond with one voice” to the request for reception and protection from thousands of citizens of this Asian country.
The Italian Foreign Minister also stressed that the international community should implement effective strategies to combat drug trafficking cultivated in Afghanistan.
“It’s right to ask and reflect, all of us, in order to identify and understand more deeply the mistakes that have been made in recent years that have led to such a rapid fall of the government in Kabul,” Di Maio added.
“We can not tolerate, however, the loss of the key achievements of the last twenty years, especially in the field of women’s rights,” said the Italian Foreign Minister.
