The Italian Civil Protection is on alert due to the big wave heatwave which from tonight will raise its temperatures significantly, mainly in the Italian South but not only.

The temperature is expected to exceed forty degrees and create problems in Palermo and Catania in Sicily, in the northern city of Trieste, in central Perugia. Italy and in Bari, Puglia. In these areas the vigilance is highest, in the “red”.

At the same time, Rome, Florence, Bologna and Ancona are on an orange alert level. It is recalled that, according to forecasts, the thermometer over the weekend is expected to reach 47 degrees in the greater Naples region and 46 in Sicily and the wider Bari region.

In Sicily, at the same time, the big heat wave favors the outbreak of fires. Firefighters, Civil Protection and men and women of the Forest Service in the last hours operating in the area of ​​Palermo and Catania.

In the Fosa Creta district of Catania, dozens of families have been forced to flee their homes. Traffic was stopped on a series of major city streets, while the flames destroyed the organized beach “Le Capane”. There are a total of fourteen outbreaks in Catania and its environs.

In order to facilitate the work of the Fire Brigade and the Civil Protection, it was decided to temporarily close the “Fontanarossa” airport in Catania.
