Itamaraty confirms the death of Brazilian in conflict in Ukraine

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received, through the Brazilian Embassy in Kiev, capital of Ukraine, confirmation of the death of a Brazilian in Ukrainian territory in the war with Russia. The agency maintains contact with family members to provide assistance.

“As it has been doing since the beginning of the conflict, the Itamaraty continues to emphatically advise against Brazilians traveling to Ukraine, while there are not enough security conditions in the country,” says the Itamaraty statement.

In March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França, sent five embassies with new tasks to help Brazilians who were in Ukraine or who managed to leave the country.

According to the minister, this was done “given the worsening situation”. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine began on February 24.

Since the beginning of the conflict, more than seven million people have crossed the border of the country invaded by Russian forces, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

The number of individual refugees from Ukraine registered across Europe was 4,712,076. The document also says that Poland, Russia and Moldova are the countries that received the most Ukrainians.
