Itamaraty confirms the death of Brazilian in running over in Vancouver

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Sunday (27) that a Brazilian person was among the dead of a run over that occurred in Vancouver.

Local authorities confirmed the death to the Brazilian consulate, but Itamaraty did not disclose the victim’s identity.

According to Vancouver police, at least 11 people aged 5 to 65 died and dozens were injured when a man advanced a car against a crowd at a Philippine community festival in the city in western Canada on Sunday.

Canadian authorities investigate whether mental health problems may have influenced the crime, an informed police source explained about the investigation to CNN .

“Around 8:14 pm on April 26, a man ran over a large crowd attending the Lapu Day Festival near Avenida 43 East and Fraser Street. A 30 -year -old suspect, Vancouver man, was arrested at the scene,” a police statement said.

The suspect was known to the police “under certain circumstances,” said Vancouver police chief Steve Rai, reporters at a press conference on Sunday (27).

The investigation, led by the Vancouver Police Department’s serious crimes section, is underway and the police asked the public to contact them with any information about the case.

Videos of the organizers of the Instagram event showed animated cultural dances and musical performances throughout the day, with various food trucks and market stalls spread over both sides of the street.

Many families with young children were among the participants.
