Itamaraty discloses Bolsonaro’s political agenda at the Summit of the Americas

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will participate in the ninth edition of the Summit of the Americas, in Los Angeles, this Thursday (9) and Friday (10). The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL) will also be part of the delegation.

The event’s agenda will consist of five Political Commitments to be adopted by world leaders:

  • “Plan of Action on Health and Resilience in the Americas”;
  • “Our sustainable and green future”;
  • “Accelerating the transition to clean energy”;
  • “Regional Agenda on Digital Transformation” and
  • “Inter-American Plan of Action on Democratic Governance”.

One of the expectations of Brazilian participation in the event will be the first face-to-face meeting between Presidents Jair Bolsonaro and Joe Biden.

According to US national security adviser Jake Sullivan, the climate will be an “important topic of discussion” between countries, as will “open, transparent and democratic elections”.

In addition to the commitments involving the government, some parallel activities are also planned: the IV Summit of CEOs of the Americas, organized by the US Chamber of Commerce; the VI Youth Forum of the Americas, organized by the “Young Americans Business Trust”; and a forum for civil society and social actors, organized with the support of the Summits Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS).

The summit is held periodically and marks the meeting of political leaders from the continent. The objective is to discuss and define actions to face problems shared by the region and advance in integration. This year, the theme of the meeting is “Building a Sustainable, Resilient and Equitable Future”.
