The Itamaraty clarified this Friday (25) that the plan for the withdrawal of Brazilians who are in Ukraine provides for an orderly and safe exit by land towards Poland, located to the west of Ukrainian territory.
The idea, however, will be put into practice only if there are safety conditions. With the closure of airspace in Ukraine, the exit option is land. The first official information from the government was that there would be no conditions to rescue the Brazilians. Instead, guidelines were given on travel routes and that Brazilians use their own cars. Hours later, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França, stated that there is a contingency plan and that it would involve other countries.
In practice, the Russian invasion is gaining scale and the Brazilians or Ukrainians with regard to Brazil remain in place, without obtaining information on how the withdrawal plan will work. For authorities in other countries, such as India, withdrawing their nationals from Ukraine is not an option, it is an obligation. The Indian Embassy in Brazil, for example, estimates that 20,000 Indians live in Ukraine. There are many Indian students studying medicine and engineering in the place.
The embassy informed the CNN that 1 month ago started the removal of Indians from the place by air, when the circulation of flights was allowed. With the closing of the air borders, the operation became concentrated on land routes. Indian officials were sent to accompany Ukraine’s departure to other countries, such as Romania and Hungary.
