This Friday (24), Itamaraty lamented the death of Michel Nisenbaum, a 59-year-old Brazilian who had been under the power of Hamas since the October 7 attacks.
In a statement, the Brazilian government condemned what it called “terrorist acts carried out by Hamas” and called for the release of all hostages. Itamaraty also reinforced the call for an end to hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
“The Brazilian government expresses its solidarity and sincere condolences to the family and friends of Michel Nisembaum, as well as to the people of Israel”, says the note.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) had already spoken out about the death of Michel Nisenbaum, and said that Brazil will continue fighting for the release of the hostages. “I learned, with immense sadness, of the death of Michel Nisembaum, a Brazilian held hostage by Hamas,” wrote Lula in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Michel Nisenbaum lived in Israel since he was 12. He leaves two daughters and six grandchildren. Specialized in computing, Nisenbaum had recently started working as a tour guide in Israel.
