Earlier on the web there were rumors that the next generation of AMD’s flagship graphics cards will receive a dual-chip graphics processor.
It seems that now this has been indirectly confirmed. In a recent Linux patch, we found lines where you can see the mention of two crystals: alde_die_0 and alde_die_1. And all of this applies to one accelerator. True, not for gaming, but for specialized: Instinct MI200 codenamed Aldebaran.
Recall that the GPUs of the new Instinct accelerators will be based on the CDNA2 architecture, that is, they will not be the same graphics cores that will be used in consumer cards. At the same time, it is hardly advisable to create multi-chip GPU technology in order to implement it only in Instinct cards, so we can expect that the conditional Radeon RX 7900 XT will receive a graphics processor consisting of two crystals.
Previous rumors have spoken of 80 CUs per die, which is the same as the RX 6900 XT.
