“It’s necessary to know how to live”, “I love you”: see Erasmo Carlos’ most played songs

Erasmo Carlos, who died this Tuesday (22) in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 81, was a multiple artist – in addition to being a musician, he was also an actor – and was a great lyricist and partner of, like him, big names in music. But it was with his friend Roberto Carlos, a partner since the days of Tijuca, in the north of Rio de Janeiro, in the 1950s, that his verses were engraved in the memory of the Brazilian public.

“It’s necessary to know how to live” and “Eu te amo te amo te amo” are at the top of the artist’s most played songs according to a survey carried out by ECAD (Central Office of Collection and Distribution) when he turned 80 in 2021.

Known as Tremendão, a nickname he earned in the 1960s, Erasmo is considered one of the icons of Brazilian rock, but without ceasing to use his romantic vein in his compositions. There are 682 songs and 643 recordings registered in Ecad.

On Spotify, the most played songs by Gigante Gentil are different from those listed by ECAD. With more than 11 million plays, “Gente Abra” appears as Erasmo’s most played song on the platform. The song is from the 1971 album “Carlos, Erasmo”, one of the most important of the artist’s career. According to its official website, the album is also one of the most sought after in used bookstores.

Following Spotify, there is “Além do Horizonte”, a partnership with Roberto Carlos, from the 1980 album “Erasmo Convida”. Erasmo’s third most played song on the platform is “Do Fundo do Meu Coração”, with more than 5.6 million plays, from the 1996 album “É Escolha Saber Viver”, in which he sings with Adriana Calcanhotto.

Erasmo’s fourth most played song is also a duet. Originally the artist recorded “A Carta” in 1966 on the album “Você me lit”, but on Spotify the version is a recording with Renato Russo, vocalist of Legião Urbana, who died in 1996.

Tremendão was also one of the favorite artists for re-recordings. According to Ecad, in the list of his songs most recorded by other performers, “Emoções” appears in first place, with “Jesus Christ” in second and “Detalhes” in third. All also made in partnership with Roberto Carlos.
