It's official: Downton Abbey 3 is in the works

After the shocking ending of the second film dedicated to Downton Abbey we believed that the circle was now closed, but Julian Fellowes, who launched the original series, is obviously not of the same opinion, to the point of being working on a new chapter that puts a definitive end to the Crawley family saga. After six seasons – available on Prime Video – and two films that incredibly met with unexpected success at the cinema, Downton Abbey is preparing, therefore, to return one last time, and the confirmation of this rumor comes directly from a member of the cast, namely from Imelda Staunton who, in the second film, played the Queen's lady-in-waiting, Lady Maud Bagshaw.

Interviewed on the BBC Radio 2 program with Zoe Ball, Staunton, fresh from the last two seasons of The Crownhas in fact announced that Downton Abbey has rekindled the engines for a third film. Through her words, the actress thus confirmed the insistent rumors that have emerged over the last few months, suggesting that the first take will be done this summer. «There will be the final film, that's it, I said it.” said the actress live, thus giving rise to what was reported by The Sun, the first to anticipate the start of filming at the historic Highclere Castle which has become, thanks to Downton Abbeyan ultra pop tourist destination.

Always The Sun suggested that Paul Giamattifresh off his Oscar nomination for The Holdovershe would have reprized the role of Harold Levinson in the film, i.e. the brother of the Countess of Grantham. What is certain is that, after Lady Violet's exit, Downton Abbeyafter having prepared the ground for a long time, should actually tell us about the end of the life that the Crawleys have always carried forward since the first season, definitively passing the scepter to that rapidly rising bourgeoisie which has made it clear that the time of castles and page boys it is now sold out.
