“It’s solidarity with Ukraine”, says Mourão about Bolsonaro and Zelensky’s conversation

Asked about the connection that President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) will have with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, this Monday (18), Vice President Hamilton Mourão (Republicans) said that the motivation of the conversation is “solidarity”.

“I think it’s solidarity with the situation that Ukraine is experiencing, a difficult situation. The country’s infrastructure being destroyed by the conflict. I think that’s more or less where the president is going to talk,” he said.

Mourão also raised the possibility of humanitarian aid entering the discussion topics.

“Humanitarian aid issue, if any. We had already offered from the beginning to receive Ukrainian refugees, we have a Ukrainian colony here in Brazil, there in Paraná. So I think the conversation will be there.”

Bolsonaro says phone call will be “state secret”

In an interview with journalists this Sunday (17), Bolsonaro spoke of his expectations for the call.

“I don’t know what he’s going to say to me, Zelensky, right? But I intend to tell him what I think, right? And if he asks me something, where we can collaborate, I will give my opinion, since I will only give it if he asks.”

“This cannot be leaked, it is a state secret, just like my conversation with (Russian President Vladimir) Putin, it took three hours, we talked a lot,” he added.

The president said that the contact should only be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos França, and an interpreter. Regarding the content of the conversation, Bolsonaro said that he is not sure what the Ukrainian president plans.
