Majur performed at the end of the first day of the II International Expo of Black Consciousness. After the show, the singer spoke with the CNN No Plural team, talking about representation, music and the joy of having her maid of honor, also singer and songwriter Liniker, awarded at the Latin Grammy 2022.
“Talking about the future is talking about the now, because now is already the future. I am a trans woman, black and married in Brazil. Liniker, who is also my maid of honor at my wedding, won the Grammy for ‘Best Brazilian Popular Music Album’. This demarcates a specific representation in music, it goes beyond the understanding of her body as a trans woman, which is something that comes in the background when it comes to what she set out to do, which was to put her album on the award and win for the song. Everything is very significant and gigantic, and as I said before, the future is now”, says Majur.

The singer dedicated her show at the II Expo to Liniker and spoke of the representation of black people in multiple spaces. Her songs, from the R&B and MPB genres, address themes such as affective relationships and empowerment. “We have felt that the representation of black people is more present, especially in the media”, she says.
In addition, Majur also reinforces the role of social networks as a way to discuss issues such as racism, transphobia and other prejudices. “We discuss any agenda on social networks. And everyone is there to say what they think, to defend, to really learn and change society. The more time passes, the more we forget about stereotypes and talk about achievements and victories. It is the happiest day of my life”, she concludes.
