“It’s very naive to think that Huawei’s market share will be split between Chinese brands,” Honor CEO

After the strong decline in Huawei’s position in the global smartphone market, in particular in China, many analysts predicted that market share would be split between various Chinese brands.

Over the past few months, Chinese manufacturers have been actively releasing new models, intending to occupy the vacated market share, especially in the premium segment. Nevertheless, Apple showed another breakthrough and for the first time since 2015 took first place in the Chinese market. This is due to the huge demand for the iPhone 13.

Against this backdrop, Honor CEO Zhao Ming said that Chinese smartphone makers shouldn’t hope that the market freed up by Huawei will only be split between them.

It would be naive to think that the market liberated by Huawei should be divided between domestic brands. The market will not tolerate such naivety.

In November last year, Honor became an independent smartphone maker, and its share was only 3%. After regaining access to the supply chain, Honor ranked among the top three Chinese smartphone manufacturers in the third quarter with a 17% market share. The Honor 60 and Honor 60 Pro smartphones were presented yesterday.

As for Apple, the company has faced declining demand and has informed its component suppliers that demand for the iPhone 13 lineup has weakened.
