Ivana Trump, the ex-wife of former US President Donald Trump, died of “blunt impact injuries” to the torso, the New York City coroner said on Friday.
Trump, a longtime businesswoman, died at his home in New York on Thursday at the age of 73. She was the mother of Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric Trump.
The city’s Police Department had said on Thursday that “there did not appear to be any crimes” related to his death. According to a statement, police received a call to 911, the emergency number, shortly after noon local time, and found a “73-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive.”
The New York Fire Department said it responded to a report of an individual who suffered a cardiac arrest at his residence, with the time and location corresponding with information the NYPD has linked to Trump. The fire department said the victim was already dead when rescuers arrived at the scene.
Raised in communist Czechoslovakia, Ivana Trump has partnered with Donald Trump on some of his most important real estate projects. The two divorced in 1992 after his affair with Marla Maples, who later became the former president’s second wife.
After the divorce, Ivana married and divorced twice more, maintaining a world travel lifestyle.
His sons paid tribute on Thursday to his acumen, humor and passion for the business.
Ivanka Trump wrote that she was “heartbroken by the death of (her) mother”, adding: “She lived life to the fullest – never missing an opportunity to laugh and dance. I will miss her forever and keep her memory alive in our hearts always.”
