The Ministry of Health refuted, on Monday (5), rumors about the use of ivermectin to treat dengue and stated that the medication is ineffective in combating the disease.
“The false narrative was disseminated on some profiles of health professionals, including repercussions in the media, but without any data or source to prove the statement,” said the ministry.
“Ivermectin is also not effective in reducing the viral load of dengue. The Ministry of Health does not recognize any protocol that includes medicine for treating the disease,” he stated.
According to the Ministry of Health, treatment for dengue is based mainly on adequate volume replacement, always considering the serotype of the disease (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3 and DENV-4).
Brazil is facing a significant increase in dengue cases. To date, the country has 345,235 probable cases of dengue and has already recorded 36 deaths from the disease in this year.
