J. Borel: EU condemns Russia’s sanctions against European nationals

EU High Representative for the European Communities Josef Borrell has condemned the EU’s decision to impose sanctions on EU citizens.

“The European Union deplores the decision of the Russian authorities to prohibit certain nationals of the European Union, including officials of the European Union and of the Member States, as well as members of the European Parliament and of the parliaments of the Member States, from entering the territory of the Russian Federation as “retaliation for EU sanctions in connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Borrell said in a statement.

He notes that “unlike Russian sanctions, EU restrictive measures are published in a transparent manner and are based on clear criteria, which include legal means of challenging them.”

“The European Union continues to urge Russia to put an end to this aggression and to withdraw all forces and military equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine immediately and unconditionally, and to fully respect the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine within “Russia bears full responsibility for this aggressive war against Ukraine and will be held accountable for the crimes committed in its course,” he said.
