Jabuti 2021 Award announces second list of finalists

This Tuesday (16), the Jabuti, an important Brazilian literary award, announced the five finalists in each of the 20 categories of its 63rd edition, which takes place on the 25th.

Divided into Literature, Non-Fiction, Editorial Production and Innovation, this year’s awards had a 31% increase in entries compared to the previous edition – there were around 3,400 works entered in total. The ceremony, which will take place virtually, will also award the Book of the Year award, given to the work with the highest score awarded by the jury among the winners of the Literature and Non-Fiction categories.

The event will be broadcast on the Câmara Brasileira do Livro channel on YouTube, conducted by actor Dan Stulbach. The writer Ignácio de Loyola Brandão, immortal of the Brazilian Academy of Letters (ABL), will be honored as the Literary Personality of the Jabuti.

Winners in each category receive the statuette and a prize of R$5,000, while the winner of the Yearbook receives R$100,000. In 2020, the poet Cida Pedrosa was the winner, with “Solo Para Vialejo”.

Circling through different narrative paths, the five works competing for the Jabuti 2021 Prize in the Literary Novel category touch on contemporary themes such as racism, social inequality, minorities, political crisis and helplessness. Check it out in the gallery.
