Twitter founder Jack Dorsey talked about plans to launch the Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund. Volunteers and lawyers of the organization will provide legal support to Bitcoin developers.
Chaincode Labs co-founder Alex Morcos and University of Sussex professor Martin White will also participate in the foundation, according to the announcement. The letter said that the creation of the Dorsey foundation was prompted by the fact that independent developers are increasingly subject to lawsuits and do not have the opportunity to defend themselves.
“Most developers, due to the lack of official protection, quickly surrender. We offer coordinated legal support, ”the letter says.
The non-profit organization will take over the litigation and try to minimize the involvement of developers in the processes so that they can focus on the development of the Bitcoin ecosystem. So far, the organization takes care of all the financial costs, although it is possible that additional capital will be needed in the future. These issues will be decided by the board of directors of the fund.
The first to fall under the protection of the organization will be Ira Kleiman and other developers, whom Craig Wright and his wife were accused of stealing bitcoins. Last April, Wright’s wife Ramona Ang filed a lawsuit against them.
