Dorsie compared the messenger with the IRC -Chat from the end of the 1990s.
According to White Paper, Bitchat is a fully decentralized network without central servers. For registration, you do not need accounts, mail or phone number. Messages are stored only in the device’s memory and do not fall into the central database. Additional safety provides through encryption.
Each device on the BitChat network works both as a client and as a relay. Messages can “jump” between gadgets to achieve remote users. The range of Bluetooth is 30 meters, and individual network clusters connect nodes-moasts. Big messages are divided into fragments of 500 bytes.
The messenger is suitable for use at conferences and in disaster zones – in situations where access to the Internet is limited or unreliable. In the future, developers plan to introduce Wi-Fi support to transfer large files.
In June, Elon Musk announced the launch of the XChat messenger “Crystal, disappearing messages and the ability to send any files”. The application was faced with criticism.
