A puma jaguar escaped from the cage at the Brasília Zoo this Saturday morning (8) and the place had to be evacuated and temporarily closed for visitation. The space reopens to the public this Sunday (9).
According to the institution’s press office, employees and agents of the Environmental Police Battalion worked to recapture the animal. In an Instagram post, the zoo’s administration reported that the jaguar was recaptured around 3 pm and “without any complications”.
The jaguar is four years old and was raised from a puppy in the zoo in the country’s capital. “She arrived at the Zoo in 2018, and, as she was raised and raised under human care, she is a tame animal that is used to the technical team,” said the press office.
Also according to the Zoo, there is no history of escapes in the enclosure where the animal was.
“This is a space that has housed large cats for over 20 years. The board will investigate to find out what caused the animal to escape and will take the necessary measures”.
