Jaguar that devoured homemade bones and hair: police ask for DNA examination

The Mato Grosso do Sul Civil Police, by the 1st Aquidauana Police Station, is awaiting DNA examinations to complete the investigation into the death of Jorge Ávalo, 60, allegedly devoured by a jaguar in the rural municipality of Taurus Dead (MS) in April this year.

At the beginning of the investigation that investigated the disappearance of the caretaker, agents found only a “coagulated biological matter”, compatible with blood, in the Mata region.

Days later, police found remains and part of the body, which were collected at the scene were sent to the Aquidauana Forensic Medicine Center for necroscopic and DNA examinations. Necroscopic examinations led to confirmation of Jorge’s identity.

The jaguar that allegedly devoured the caretaker was captured on April 24 taken to the Wild Animal Rehabilitation Center (CRAS) in Campo Grande (MS). In transportation in the rehab unit, the animal defended.

In the feline’s feces, agents found bones and apparently human hair, said delegate Luis Fernando Domingos Mesquita, responsible for the investigations, in an interview with CNN.

The material was collected, the remains extracted and taken to the Institute of Expertise for analysis. Experts hope to cross the show with the remains found in the woods and the coagulated blood also collected. The results must confirm that the animal devoured Jorginho, as it was known in the region.

“We can say, with some conviction, that, in fact, what happened was a large wild animal attack!” Said the delegate.

Police are still awaiting the expert report of the scene of the accident to clarify the cause of death.
