Jair Bolsonaro supporter attacks women in downtown São Paulo

An unidentified man, who participated in a motorcade supporting former president Jair Bolsonaro, assaulted two women yesterday afternoon (6) in the Higienópolis neighborhood, downtown São Paulo. He fled even with the presence of military police at the scene. Footage from security cameras and cell phones of witnesses recorded the moment.

THE CNN spoke with the Human Resources analyst, Debora Alba, 39, who appears in the images being pushed by the aggressor. She says that she was returning from a supermarket when she saw the man get out of the car and go after journalist Clélia Cardim, 73 years old.

“I was returning from the market, when I noticed a lady, my neighbor from the building who was with the Lula flag protesting her way. When I saw her, four people got out of the car to attack her and to take the flag away from her”, she says.

The images show that when Débora approaches the confusion to help the lady, the man goes up to her and removes an item from his pocket to attack her. She tells that she managed to protect her face.

“I ran to help because a tragedy could happen. I thought the worst. We can expect everything from them. And indeed he had something in his hand.”, he says.

The images that captured the violent action of Bolsonarist supporters show a Military Police vehicle that arrived moments after the start of the confusion. Débora reports that the police wanted to put her husband in the car, but that they did not take any steps to reprimand the aggressors. “The police escort him to the car. They put it in the car and tell him to go away”, she reports.

Clélia Cardim also spoke with the reporter. She said it all happened so fast. The images also show that she was waving a flag of President Lula, when she was approached by Bolsonaristas who tried to snatch the prop from her hands.

“I was alone. On the other side there were some guys shouting Lula. Anyway.”, he reports.

THE CNN made contact with the owner of the vehicle that appears in the images. She said that she is from a family of supporters of President Lula, but that she lent the car to her father-in-law in October last year.

The woman said that she does not condone the extreme behavior of the people who were in her car and said that her father-in-law and the man who attacks women are friends and that they always accompany Bolsonarist demonstrations.

The PM sent a note saying that there was a call to the address where there was a demonstration and that “apparently someone was attacked, but no case of aggression was registered”.
