James Webb Space Telescope Main Mirror Deployment Completed

NASA is one big step closer to commissioning the James Webb Space Telescope. The deployment of the gilded primary mirror was successfully completed, which was the final step in the main stages of bringing the instrument into working order. Now, the specialists operating the telescope will have to tune the telescope by moving the segments of the main mirror. This step will take several months to complete. But the successful deployment of the primary mirror itself is a sign that the $ 10 billion device is in good shape.

Looking ahead, a third course correction will also be required as the point moves towards the L2 Lagrange point. Observations from this point are expected to provide information about the early universe that cannot be obtained with the Hubble telescope or other equipment.

The first images from the James Webb telescope will arrive no earlier than this summer.
