James Webb Space Telescope New Launch Date Announced

NASA plans to launch the James Webb Space Telescope into orbit on December 18, 2021. For the next decade, the telescope, whose launch has been repeatedly postponed, will become the main observatory for observing deep space.

James Webb Space Telescope New Launch Date Announced

The agency set a new target launch date in coordination with Arianespace after testing of the telescope was completed. Determining the date also became possible after the successful launch of the Ariane 5 rocket in late July and the determination of the launch date, which will precede the launch of the telescope. The July launch was the first for the Ariane 5 since August 2020.

The program is being implemented by NASA in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA). The telescope will be launched by the Ariane 5 rocket, which launches from the European spaceport in French Guiana on the northeastern coast of South America. Until then, it will be stored in its final warehouse configuration at Northrop Grumman’s facilities in Redondo Beach, California.
