James Webb, Space Telescope that will replace Hubble, will be launched on Christmas

The James Webb Space Telescope, replacement for Hubble, will be launched into space on December 25, at around 9:20 am EDT. He is expected to study all phases of cosmic history.

The mission is an international partnership between NASA, the American Space Agency, the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).

It will capture light stretched across spacetime at far infrared wavelengths from early stars and galaxies, helping humanity to understand the origins of the universe.

The Webb telescope is a hundred times more powerful than Hubble, the first space telescope launched in 1990. It is also larger than its predecessor: its mirror is 6.5 m in diameter, while Hubble is 2.5 m.

The launch will take place on the Ariane 5 unmanned rocket, which will depart from the spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.

The James Webb Space Telescope is named after a former NASA director who ran the agency between February 1961 and October 1968.
