Jameson Lopp: Developers don’t experiment much with Bitcoin

Casa co-founder and CTO Jameson Lopp made the case for sidechains and called for more experimentation with the first cryptocurrency to expand and improve its ecosystem. This is reported by The Block.

“I believe that sidechains and second-level solutions, as I said [сооснователь Stacks Муниб Али], are some of the most important things that can arise in this ecosystem. Because this is how we truly bring permissionless innovation to life,” said the developer during his speech at the Bitcoin Unleashed event in London.

He noted the advisability of creating new solutions on “related but different protocols from Bitcoin” so as not to constantly make changes to the code of the first cryptocurrency.

Lopp mentioned existing sidechain projects like Liquid Network from Blockstream and Rootstock. According to him, the mass adoption of these protocols has stalled due to the fact that they are based on the so-called federation. The latter acts as an intermediate point between the main chain and one of its sidechains.

The developer also noted solutions that appeared relatively recently – drivechains, Spiderchain and BitVM. In particular, they allow you to “unload” the Bitcoin mempool and expand the capabilities of smart contracts on Bitcoin.

“I want the experiments to continue. And I think the only way forward is to continue to build, to fail, to learn from mistakes and to evolve,” Lopp said.

Earlier, the head of Botanix Labs, Willem Schroe, announced the feasibility of integrating the Bitcoin blockchain with the Ethereum Virtual Machine.
