According to the Japanese media outlet, Kyodo news agency, the country’s government is considering plans to declare a state of emergency for the Tokyo area starting on January 9 for about a month to curb the rapid rise in coronavirus infections.
The prefectures in the Tokyo area are asking residents to refrain from non-essential and non-urgent departures after 8pm, reports NHK station.
Meanwhile, Japanese Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura said the government is not now thinking of calling for the closure of schools under any state of emergency.
He added that Tokyo and three neighboring prefectures are planning to ask restaurants to close at 8:00 pm.
