Japan constructs the first nuclear reactor after the Fukushima nuclear accident

Japan has allowed a utility company to launch an investigation into the construction of a nuclear reactor, first after the 2011 nuclear accident in Fukushima. 14 years ago, a tsunami was caused due to an earthquake of 9.1 Richter and hit the area’s nuclear power plant, causing a radioactivity leak. Since then, all nuclear power stations are frozen, such as that of the J-Power station that began constructing 2008. In addition, general concerns about the use of nuclear energy and the fact that Japan is a earthquake country have led to a policy shift. Japan reopened 14 of the 54 reactors that were closed after Fukushima’s destruction, with energy dependence on nuclear power to 8.5%, well less than 30% before 2011.
