Japan will increase its financial aid to Ukraine to US$600 million, equivalent to around R$2.9 billion.
The announcement was made this Thursday (19) by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The country had previously announced the sending of US$ 300 million in financial support.
Kishida said the decision was taken after Ukraine expressed its need for assistance due to the worsening financial situation caused by the Russian invasion.
“Japan will continue to strongly support Ukraine in cooperation with the G7 and the international community,” the Japanese premier told reporters.
The move comes just after the US and European Union announced more assistance to Ukraine, and ahead of a visit by US President Joe Biden to the region.
Biden is expected to visit South Korea and Japan during his time in Asia.
Kishida also said on Thursday that he would discuss Japan’s position on the conflict during talks next week.
