The eruption in one of the largest volcanoes in the world, occurred around 11:43 (local time; 05:43 Greek time), according to the service. No injuries or damage were reported at the popular destination, according to Reuters.
The Japanese Meteorological Service raised the alert level to level three (five in total), advising citizens not to approach the mountain. He warned that there could be rocks and pyroclastic flows within a radius of 1 km from Nakadake Crater.
