Japan: North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile lands near Hokkaido island

THE Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida strongly condemned her “absolutely unacceptable” ballistic missile launch by North Koreabelieved to have been transcontinental and to have fallen within the Japanese exclusive economic zone (EEZ) near the island of Hokkaido.

“The ballistic missile launched by North Korea appears to have landed in our EEZ, west of Hokkaido”Mr Kishida said, insisting that the weapons test was “totally unacceptable”. He clarified that no damage has been reported to ships or aircraft that were moving in the area.

According to the Japanese Coast Guard, the missile fell about 210 kilometers off the coast of Hokkaido.

“We have certainly lodged a strong protest with North Korea, which is repeating its provocations with unprecedented frequency.”, Mr. Kisida emphasized from Thailand, where he is participating in the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. His remarks were televised live in Japan.

“We emphasized (to Pyongyang) that we cannot under any circumstances tolerate such actions”he insisted.

According to the Japanese Defense Ministry, the missile was launched in an easterly direction at around 10:14 (local time; 03:14 Greece time), Kyodo news agency reported.

Earlier, South Korea’s national defense general staff spoke of an ICBM launch from North Korea.
