Japan will participate in the blockade of Russian banks by Swift

Japan will follow the example of Western countries to exclude some Russian banks from the Swift platform, the prime minister announced today, thus intensifying the pressure on Moscow, after the invasion of Ukraine.

Western countries have announced measures “to isolate Russia from the international financial system and the global economy, in particular the exclusion of some Russian banks from Swift” and “have asked Japan to take part. Japan will take part in this initiative”. said Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

Italian government sources welcomed the decision by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to share and support the February 26 decision to impose further restrictive sanctions on Russia. The Draghi government expects further coordination with Japan in the coming days.
