Japan will supply Ukraine with chemical weapons masks and uniforms, Defense Minister Nobuo Kisi said today.
In addition, commercial drones will be provided to Ukraine for reconnaissance purposes as part of its fight against Russian invaders. This is in response to a request from the Kiev government.
Japan is doing so amid growing concerns about the use of chemical weapons by Russian forces. “We will continue to provide as much support as possible to the Ukrainian government,” he said.
Japan has recently supplied bulletproof vests, helmets and winter combat clothing to Ukraine.
As part of economic sanctions imposed on Moscow, Japan has imposed a ban on imports of 38 goods from Russia, including vodka and some timber products.
The banned products account for just over 1% of imports from Russia, the Japanese news agency Kyodo reported.
Japan is acting in line with the West in imposing tougher sanctions on Russia.
