O Tan Tan Noodle Bar is the only Brazilian house to figure among the 100 best bars in the world, annual list of the awards “The World’s 50 Best Bars” from 2021. The contemporary oriental bar in São Paulo appears in 87th place in the ranking.
The awards ceremony took place on Tuesday night (7) with a live broadcast on social media directly from London, with the right to a red carpet and distinguished guests from the sector – including the chef Thiago Bañares and the mixologist Alex Mosque, do So so.
The bar on Fradique Coutinho street, in Pinheiros, had already appeared in 2020 in the ranking of the “50 Best Discovery”, a guide that brings together the best in the world according to the award jury, and nominated as one of the 12 best bars in Latin America in the “ 14th Tales of the Cocktail Foundation Spirited Awards”, annual award given by the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation, of the USA.
Opened in 2015, Tan Tan combines signature cocktails with recipes from “chuka” cuisine, a part of Japanese cuisine with Chinese influences that accounts for most of the hot dishes consumed in Japan.
Best in the world in 2021
For the second year in a row, the Connaught Bar in London was voted best bar in the world. Described by the awards as “a quintessential London hotel bar,” it sits inside the five-star Connaught hotel and has an Italian accent. The specialty is the Martini Cart, where bartenders offer diners a personalized drinking experience.
On the podium are Tayēr + Elementary, also in London, and Paradiso, in Barcelona.
Among the top 50 of this edition, 17 countries entered the ranking, with 18 new entries from bars across Australia, India, Mexico, Russia, Argentina, Sweden, Spain, China and the United Arab Emirates.
A leadership in Europe went to Spain, which has four bars on the prestigious list among the top 50 – in addition to Paradiso, there are also Two Schmucks (11th place) and Sips (37th), both in Barcelona; and the Salmon Guru (24th) in Madrid.
The World’s 50 Best Bar Academy is made up of bar industry experts from around the world, and the voting period ran from March 2020 to September 2021.
